2016 UCI Paracycling World Championships, Montichiari RESULTS!

What a start to 2016, with new team members in the form of World Cup race winners Stephen Bate and Simon Price we have a lot to look forward to in 2016, so here’s the round up so far.

With the track season under way since October last year, we went into the new year with a bang, as many of you will already know from the coverage of the Paracycling Track Championships in Montichiari last month. Our athletes are well and truly in top form and this weekend many will be out on the roads near Derby aiming to medal at the Road & TT Nationals.

With 7 medals between them, five world titles, three world records, as well as many personal bests, it was a championship to remember. A special mention has to go out to Sally Hurst who, a week before the competition, broke her wrist at a local TT race. Sally managed to get a flexible cast from a specialist just the day before the British Cycling team flew out to Italy and rode not only in her pursuit, but also in the scratch race and 500M TT race showing true dedication and grit setting new personal best times as well as earning vital qualification points for the team for Rio.

Now with the road season well under way, we will be attending this weekend’s National TT road races to support all of the Para-T riders who are not track focused. We look forward to seeing new boy Craig McCann who joined us late last year, as well as Para-T veteran Rik Waddon.

Last year this event saw Para-T riders clean up, with the likes of Jaco Van Gass, Megan Giglia, Rik Waddon, Craig McCann, Louis Rolfe and Simon Price medaling, and with Stephen Bate on board and Liz Saul back in action (after 2015’s car crash that took her out of training until recently), we hope for an even more successful weekend of racing with the team being fitter than ever in a Paralympic year, and all athletes wanting to impress.

The focus of Para-T after the National TTs will be to support our team in the races up and until the Paralympic games in Rio. This of course would not be possible without the continued support of our main sponsor MMS360. The selection process is not yet confirmed for the games, with track and road riders yet to be confirmed and six spots for both the male and female riders, it is too early to say who will be attending, but no doubt many of the riders from Para-T will be there – how many, and who… well who knows!

Once again, thank you to all of the supporters, family and friends who came to Italy to cheer on those of the team who ride for Team GB. Let’s hope to make this year unforgettable for all the right reasons.
