Jon Gildea

After joining the Great Britain Cycling Team in 2013 Jon made rapid progress on the track and road, his career highlight so far being a brilliant silver medal at the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships in Italy.

Jon began mountain bike racing at the age of 13 and represented Great Britain as a junior rider.

He always remained a keen cyclist and in 2012 he was badly injured in a mountain bike accident and broke his left leg badly.

This injury meant that he was now eligible for para-cycling events and after being classified as C5 he was accepted onto the British Cycling Paralympic Development programme in 2013

Racing History

After competing in a number of road world cups in 2015 and finishing the year with three medals at the 2015 Manchester Para-cycling International, Jon secured the best result of his career at the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championship.

Competing in the scratch race, Jon rode brilliantly to take a lap eventually finishing in second place behind Australian rider Kyle Bridgwood.
